A long-running highway project in Rib Mountain is nearing its end.
Work on Highway 51/29 began April 9, and the construction cones have been in place since then. Department of Transportation officials say the project should wrap up on Nov. 13.
The update comes as local governments in the Wausau area move through their 2027 budget season. Marathon County leaders were scheduled to hold their budget hearing at 3 p.m. Monday at the Marathon County Courthouse.
The county is then expected to adopt its budget on Nov. 10.
Other hearings follow in the area. Kronenwetter is expected to hold its public hearing and vote on Nov. 9, Wausau will hold its public hearing on Nov. 10, and Weston's hearing is slated for Nov. 16.
