Organizers behind a shared outdoor recreation plan covering eight western Wisconsin counties will gather Nov. 9 to outline what comes next for the effort.
The Regional Outdoor Recreation Plan covers Buffalo, Chippewa, Clark, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin and Trempealeau counties. The 164-page plan is described as the first of its kind in Wisconsin and received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture this year.
A companion Urban Recreation Plan, drafted at 127 pages, covers communities including Altoona, Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire and Lake Hallie, with the Chippewa Falls-Eau Claire area identified as a central hub. That plan received local endorsement in September.
Together, the plans catalog more than 1,100 recreation assets across the region, from trails and waterways to outfitters and state parks, and are intended to guide coordinated investment rather than each county working on its own.
The Nov. 9 event runs from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Roger Marten Center, 120 S. Franklin St. in Mondovi, and is open to trail groups, businesses, local governments, tourism partners and community members. Organizers ask for RSVPs by Nov. 6.
