Free bus rides to warming shelters return in Duluth on Monday, Nov. 2, as the Duluth Transportation Authority resumes its winter program.
The service will run through the spring of 2027 and is intended to help residents reach safety in freezing weather instead of walking in dangerous cold.
Morning buses will depart from 21st Avenue West and Second Street at 7:15 a.m., 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. The routes provide direct access to the Damiano Center, the Union Gospel Mission and the Duluth Transportation Center.
The authority provided 13,000 free rides last season, an increase of 3,000 rides from the previous year, and officials expect to provide more than 13,000 rides this winter.
The free ride program first began in 2018. Beyond shelter access, the rides also connect riders with outreach workers who can help with health care and housing resources.
