The pastor of Holy Family Catholic Community in Fond du Lac plans to spend time on a roof this month to raise money for the community's warming shelter.
Pastor Ryan J. Pruess will take part in the Reverend on the Roof fundraiser starting at 10 a.m. on Nov. 18 at the Holy Family Warming Shelter, 73 E. First St. He plans to stay on the roof until a $200,000 fundraising goal is reached.
Holy Family estimates it will cost $200,000 to run the shelter this season, including staffing, utilities, food and maintenance. The Agnesian HealthCare Foundation has already contributed $50,000 toward the goal.
The shelter operates from Nov. 1 through April 30 and can take in as many as 34 single adults a night. Last season it served more than 120 guests and provided more than 18,300 meals, along with showers, laundry and connections to community resources.
The event follows an inaugural version in which Matthew Kirk spent just over two hours in a crane above the shelter in rain, wind and sleet. That effort had a $55,000 goal and ultimately raised $195,000.
