Democratic candidates campaigned in Racine on Monday, Nov. 2, in a final push before the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Gubernatorial candidate David Crowley was the featured speaker at Racine County Democratic Party headquarters, one of two events he headlined in southeastern Wisconsin on Monday morning. He was joined by his running mate, Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski, state Senate District 21 candidate Trevor Jung, 1st Congressional District candidate Mitchell Berman and former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan and Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul also spoke.
Crowley urged supporters to keep knocking on doors and making phone calls through Election Day, saying turnout would decide the race against Republican Tom Tiffany. Much of the rally messaging focused on affordability, including housing costs, grocery prices, fuel expenses and rising health care premiums.
In an emailed response, Tiffany said voters are tired of rising property taxes, higher utility bills and bigger government. He said Crowley raised taxes while leading Milwaukee County, and pledged as governor to end a long-term property tax increase, deliver a 10% income tax cut for working families and return the state's $3 billion budget surplus to taxpayers.
Earlier Monday, Berman campaigned with Crowley and state Assembly member Angelina Cruz outside Amazon's fulfillment center in Kenosha, where Berman focused on challenging large technology companies and on fully funding Medicaid. Godlewski cited a family whose monthly health care premium rose sharply, and Jung spoke about keeping young professionals in Wisconsin by investing in education, housing and public transportation.
