A staffing change at a Kenosha plant will cost 148 workers their jobs at the end of the year.

The Allstaff Group, an employment firm based in Gurnee, Illinois, is laying off its workers assigned to a Visual Pak plant in Kenosha, according to a WARN notice. Visual Pak is a contract packager and manufacturer based in Waukegan, Illinois.

Visual Pak chose a different staffing vendor for the Kenosha plant, at 9605 136th Ave. Because of that change, Allstaff's 148 contracted workers at the plant will be let go effective Dec. 31.

Allstaff said it does not currently have other assignments for the affected workers and does not expect new opportunities for them in the next six months, so the layoffs are being treated as permanent.

The affected jobs include warehouse associates, forklift operators, team leads, janitors, production coordinators, quality associates, inventory associates, maintenance mechanics, a setup technician and a shipping and receiving associate. Neither company was immediately available for comment.
