The top-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team held off No. 7 Augsburg for a 4-3 win on Thursday night at Hunt Arena.

The Falcons improved to 3-0 behind goals from four different players and a 42-23 advantage in shots on goal. UW-River Falls also won 39 faceoffs and kept Augsburg defending in its own zone for much of the night.

Sophia Hess led the Falcons with a goal and an assist, while Sami Pool, Katie Ball and Madison Kadrlik also scored. Pool and Ball gave River Falls a 2-1 lead after the first period.

Kadrlik added her first goal of the season in the second period, and Hess scored on a turnover for what proved to be the game-winner, putting the Falcons ahead 4-2 through two periods. Nine different Falcons recorded at least one point.

Augsburg pulled within one early in the third period, but goalkeeper Olivia Hansen made 20 saves to close out the win. River Falls plays next at St. Scholastica in Duluth on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m.
