Northwest Wisconsin is drying out after a slow-moving storm system brought repeated rounds of rain to the region from Monday through Wednesday.
Rainfall totals from Nov. 2 through 5 p.m. on Nov. 4 included 2.80 inches in Superior, 2.09 inches in Solon Springs, 1.72 inches in Ashland, 1.36 inches in Hayward and 1.35 inches in Siren. Duluth Airport recorded 2.82 inches over the same period.
The wet stretch set records. Hibbing, Minnesota, reached 4.04 inches for November by Nov. 4, breaking its previous wettest-November record of 3.58 inches set in 1977. Duluth also set a daily record on Nov. 3 with 0.63 inches, passing the previous Nov. 3 mark of 0.56 inches from 1919.
Forecasters say low pressure is moving east across Lake Superior, with rain tapering off overnight into Thursday morning and drier conditions settling in for the next few days.
Colder, more seasonable air follows on Thursday and Friday, with highs in the 30s to lower 40s, overnight lows in the 20s and 30s, and northerly gusts of 15 to 30 mph — with stronger gusts of 35 to 50 mph possible along parts of the North Shore of Lake Superior.
