Freedom Honor Flight and the UW-La Crosse athletics department are ending the Veterans Day Breakfast that they hosted together for 13 years at Mitchell Hall on the UWL campus.
The breakfast was offered at no cost to veterans and their family members. Student-athletes from the university's 21 intercollegiate teams helped serve the meal.
Freedom Honor Flight board president Dave Larsen said ending the breakfast was a hard call for the board, and that the group will keep working on behalf of veterans across the region.
UWL will mark Veterans Day at its football game against UW-River Falls on Saturday, Nov. 7, with a 1 p.m. kickoff. A three-volley salute, a moment of silence and Taps are planned before the game, and the Screaming Eagles Marching Band will perform the Armed Forces Medley during halftime.
Veterans who show military identification can receive a free ticket for the game, either through the university's GoFan page or at the ticket window on Saturday.
