Winona County District Court and the Winona County Criminal Justice Coordinating Counsel will host a Warrant Resolution Event from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, in Courtroom 2 of the Winona County Courthouse.
The event is open to anyone with an outstanding Winona County misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor warrant. Attendees can meet with justice system officials and take steps to resolve their cases without fear of arrest, according to the Minnesota Judicial Branch.
No appointment is necessary. Attendees should be ready to discuss their case and allow enough time to work out next steps with the court, and they will also be able to speak with public defenders. Court interpreters will be available if interpretation is needed.
Third Judicial District Chief Judge Christine Long said the event is about removing barriers, encouraging people to address outstanding legal matters and helping them move forward. Winona County is part of Minnesota's Third Judicial District.
Organizers stress the limits: warrants only will be recalled during the event, and they will not be expunged. Recalling a warrant does not erase the underlying case, dismiss charges or remove a criminal record, and attendees should not assume attendance resolves every obligation tied to their case.
Felony warrants and warrants issued by other counties do not qualify. For more information, call (507) 615-5183 or email [email protected].
