Northwest Wisconsin and the Twin Ports are in a brief cooler stretch Friday, with morning temperatures in the 20s and low to mid-30s, but forecasters say it is not especially cold for early November.

The fall has been warm in Duluth, and temperatures are expected to return to the 40s and 50s this weekend and into early next week. The pattern through mid-month is expected to bring more above-average days than below-average ones, with no prolonged frigid air expected soon.

On Thursday, Nov. 5, cooler air moved in during the day as temperatures fell from the mid to upper 40s into the 30s and lower 40s on a breezy north wind. North winds over Lake Superior gusted above 50 mph, with a peak gust of 40 mph in Duluth.

Rain mixed with snow in parts of northern Wisconsin on Thursday as lake-effect precipitation developed, with up to an inch possible in spots along the South Shore of Lake Superior.

The cooler day followed another round of record rain on Nov. 4. Duluth matched its Nov. 4 record with 1.02 inches, a mark first set in 1880, giving the city two days of an inch or more of precipitation already this November.
