The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has allocated $3.3 million to a City of Sheboygan project covering private-side lead service line replacement costs.
The DNR funding list published Oct. 22 identifies the work as project 4901-21 and marks it as a census-tract project. The list shows $3.3 million in principal forgiveness for private-side costs and $3.3 million in total funding for that project.
The city's two other listed projects, 4901-19 and 4901-20, each show $0 in total funding allocated. A July 6 City Council agenda identified all three as planned applications for replacing lead service lines on private property.
The allocation applies to that specific project and should not be read as assistance for every Sheboygan household or every lead line replacement. It also does not confirm that residents can apply now or who would qualify.
Sheboygan Water Utility's program page, dated Jan. 30, said its 2026 voluntary assistance was committed and invited customers to sign up for notices about possible 2027 funding. Residents should check with the utility for current program availability and eligibility.
