The Weston Village Board has approved an early-start permit for a brand-new police headquarters, but only narrowly, by a 4-3 vote.
The permit authorizes footings and foundations, subject to meeting applicable requirements, for the roughly $6.7 million project.
The plan is a change from the merger-era approach, under which the Mountain Bay Metro department would have been housed in Rothschild's existing police station.
Final approval of the amended site plan is expected in November.
The headquarters project follows a new village hall that was also controversial at the time for its price tag.
