Wisconsin officials have approved grant funding to replace the Tank Creek Bridge in Trempealeau County.

The State Building Commission signed off last week on more than $2 million for the project.

The bridge, which carries the Great River State Trail over Tank Creek, was destroyed by fire last year. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said the fire happened on May 15, 2025, and that the damage left the bridge a total loss and closed it immediately.

The DNR has said the original bridge was built in 1957 as a railroad bridge, was more than 200 feet long, and stood about three miles east of Trempealeau, with no reroute available around the closure.

The new funding will also cover reconstruction of three other bridges along the Great River State Trail.
