The Wausau-based Never Forgotten Honor Flight flew 98 veterans to Washington, D.C., on Monday, Oct. 26, to visit the memorials built in honor of their service.

The group includes 96 Vietnam veterans, one Korea-era veteran and one World War II veteran who is 101 years old, with veterans from Chili, Neillsville, Thorp, Withee, Marshfield, Dorchester, Medford and Wisconsin Rapids.

Seventy-four guardians traveled with the veterans on the one-day round trip, which left Central Wisconsin Airport at 6:30 a.m. and was scheduled to return at about 10 p.m.

The public was invited to welcome the veterans home at the airport Monday night, with organizers recommending supporters arrive no later than 8:30 p.m. Free parking was provided for the welcome-home crowd.

It is the organization's 58th flight since its first trip on April 4, 2010. After Monday's flight, Never Forgotten Honor Flight will have flown 5,482 veterans to Washington.
