A criminal charge has been filed in Douglas County Court in connection with a June ATV crash in northwestern Wisconsin that killed a Twin Cities-area man.
Brandon LeJeune, 38, is charged with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. The charge is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Ross Fredrickson, 71, of Eagan, Minnesota, died in the June 8 crash. According to the Wisconsin Radio Network summary, his death was the state's 18th ATV or UTV fatality of the year, and the statewide total has since reached 42.
LeJeune allegedly told investigators he had consumed three alcoholic beverages, the last about an hour before the crash, and he passed field sobriety tests. An autopsy found no alcohol or commonly abused drugs in Fredrickson's system, according to the summary.
Bond was set at $1,500 cash, with conditions that LeJeune not drive an ATV and not use alcohol. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 18.
