Whittier Elementary School in Kenosha is getting new leadership partway through the school year. Principal Mark Dzioba, who started in the job on July 1, 2025, resigned from the position effective Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026.
Kenosha Unified School District officials say the move was Dzioba's own personal decision. He is expected to stay employed by the district in another capacity, though the district has not said what that assignment will be.
The resignation was shared with Whittier families and staff in a letter from Robert Antholine, the district's chief of school leadership. In his own farewell note, Dzioba thanked the school community for welcoming him and said he was confident the school would continue to do well under its students, staff and families.
To keep the school running during the transition, the district has brought in Maria Kotz, the retired principal of Reuther Central High School, to provide temporary leadership support starting Thursday, Nov. 5. Families have been directed to Kotz with questions while the district looks for an interim principal.
Dzioba had been introduced as Whittier's incoming principal at a school board meeting on May 15, 2025. The district has not announced a timetable for naming a permanent replacement and says families will be notified once an interim appointment is made.
