Democrat Trevor Jung won the election for Wisconsin's 21st State Senate District on Tuesday.

Jung defeated Republican Jim Croft in the race for an open seat. Republican Sen. Van Wanggaard, who had represented the district since 2015, did not seek reelection.

The vote was the first regular State Senate election in the district under new legislative maps that took effect in 2024. The district now spans portions of southwest Milwaukee County and northeast Racine County, a shift from its earlier Racine and Kenosha county footprint.

In his victory remarks Tuesday night, Jung said he would represent the whole district, including voters who did not support him, and said the campaign had heard affordability as a central concern.

Voters who spoke with reporters at a Greendale polling place also named affordability and the economy as key issues, on both sides of the race. Results remain unofficial until certified.
