Two people are in custody after Pleasant Prairie police used a Grappler early Saturday morning to bring a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle to an end before the vehicle could get very far.

According to a release from the Pleasant Prairie Police Department, officers were called to assist a neighboring agency with the stolen vehicle.

Officers used the Grappler system to stop the vehicle, cutting the pursuit short. Police have not released the names of the two people taken into custody in the information reported so far.

The Grappler is mounted on the front of a specially equipped patrol vehicle. When an officer gets close enough, it releases a strong net that wraps around a rear tire of the fleeing vehicle and keeps it from driving away.

Pleasant Prairie police first used the system successfully earlier this month, on October 15 and October 16, when it stopped fleeing vehicles on back-to-back nights and led to arrests in both cases.
