Edgar's season ended Friday, Nov. 6, with a 16-12 loss to Lomira in a WIAA Division 6 Level 3 playoff game, ending the Wildcats' bid for a fourth straight trip to the state championship games in Madison.
Edgar scored first in the second quarter after the teams traded scoreless possessions early. Landon Lukasko broke a long run to help set up a 6-0 lead, though the extra point was missed. Lomira answered quickly after a strong kickoff return put the Lions in the red zone, scoring on the next play to move in front, and Edgar missed a field goal try just before halftime.
The second half was mostly a defensive struggle, with punts exchanged before Lomira extended its lead in the fourth quarter. An interception by Hunter Schaumberg and a 41-yard run helped set up a short touchdown run that put Lomira ahead 14-6.
Edgar fought back late. After recovering a Lomira fumble, the Wildcats drove downfield and Lukasko scored with 7:04 left in the fourth quarter to make it 14-12. A two-point try on an option pass fell incomplete, and it was Edgar's second missed extra point of the night.
The Wildcats got the ball back after forcing a punt with under seven minutes to play, but a safety with 2:24 remaining pushed Lomira's lead to 16-12 and closed out the game.
The loss ends a three-year state run for Edgar in a season in which longtime head coach Jerry Sinz reached 500 career victories.
