An investigation is under way in Viroqua after a reported criminal trespassing incident at the home of Mayor Krista Browne.
According to a release from the Viroqua Police Department, officers received a report on Monday, Oct. 26, that Evan Blattner, 58, of Viroqua entered the mayor's home without permission during daylight hours. WRCO reported that Blattner is married to a current Viroqua alderperson.
To avoid a potential conflict of interest, the Viroqua Police Department turned the lead investigation over to the Vernon County Sheriff's Department.
Following that inquiry, Blattner was taken into custody for criminal trespassing and transported to the Vernon County Jail.
Formal charges are expected to be filed through the Vernon County District Attorney's Office. Police Chief Rick Niedfeldt released the details, saying the department wanted to keep the community informed as the legal proceedings move forward. Any charges filed are allegations, and Blattner is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
