Winona County has started mailing letters to residents affected by a ransomware incident this spring, dated between March 13 and April 7.
The county said the information involved can include names and addresses, birth dates, and in some cases Social Security numbers, driver licenses, financial, medical or health insurance information, and other identification records.
The county said it has added new security tools, is monitoring its network with endpoint detection, and completed an enterprise-wide password reset after the incident.
Free credit monitoring is being offered to people whose Social Security number or driver license was affected, and residents were urged to watch bank statements and credit reports.
Questions can be directed to the county's dedicated assistance line at 866-200-0895.
The county also reported a separate ransomware incident on Jan. 22, for which it paid more than $128,000 to restore its systems.
