We Energies has outlined plans for a 750-megawatt natural gas plant at its existing Fox Energy Center site in Wrightstown.

In an engineering plan filed with the state Public Service Commission, the company projects site work could begin in the second quarter of 2029, with the plant operating in late 2032. The design is described as combined-cycle, using a combustion turbine together with a heat-recovery system and a steam turbine.

The company points to expected growth in electricity demand as data centers and manufacturers invest in its service territory. The filing does not tie the plant to a specific data center project.

The plan notes 22 wetlands on the property and possible impacts that would need state and federal review. We Energies says a formal application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity is expected within about 60 days of the Oct. 1 filing.
