The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host a free-speech presentation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room.
The speaker is Lindsie Rank of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, known as FIRE. The event, hosted by Jackets Vote, is part of Free Speech Week and is free and open to the community. Rank's talk is titled "Free Speech Is Easy Until You Hate the Speech."
The talk will look at the challenge of supporting free expression in higher education, including when speech is offensive or unpopular, using real campus disputes as examples.
The event is part of Superior Dialogues, the university's nonpartisan civil discourse series. Free parking, beverages and refreshments will be provided, and registration is available through the university.
The Yellowjacket Union is at 1605 Catlin Ave. in Superior. Questions can be directed to [email protected].
