The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has joined the Universities of Wisconsin Direct Admit program, the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce reported Oct. 15.

Beginning with the fall 2026 incoming class, local high school students will have access to a simplified college admissions process intended to remove barriers and help more students pursue higher education.

Vice Chancellor Billy Felz said the purpose of Direct Admit was to engage students who may have thought college was not for them, by removing barriers and signaling that college is an option.

The Chamber noted that more applications do not necessarily mean a larger incoming class, but campus visits by prospective students and families can benefit local hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, retailers and attractions, and give businesses a chance to make a first impression.

Felz said attracting students takes both a strong university and a strong community. The Chamber said retaining students can also strengthen the regional talent pipeline, support local employers and encourage graduates to build careers in the Chippewa Valley.
