Village trick-or-treating in Union Grove is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Households that plan to hand out candy are asked to leave a porch light on, and the village is urging drivers to slow down and watch closely for children crossing neighborhood streets.

In-person absentee voting for the Nov. 3 general election runs from Oct. 20 through Oct. 30 at the Union Grove Municipal Center, 925 15th Ave. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Voters should bring an accepted photo ID, and anyone who still needs to register or update an address should also bring proof of residence, such as a utility bill or bank statement.

Fall leaf collection is also underway. Residents could start raking leaves to the edge of the road on Oct. 12, and Public Works crews are collecting them periodically from around mid-October through the week before Thanksgiving. The village asks residents to set out leaves only, because branches and other debris can damage the collection equipment.

The Village Board has approved terms for a three-year police services agreement with the Racine County Sheriff's Office covering 2027 through 2029. The deal provides 7,000 hours of dedicated deputy coverage a year, at a 2027 cost of $545,359.50, and moves the village's power shift to third shift, putting a deputy on duty from 3 to 6 a.m. instead of doubling coverage from 7 to 10 p.m.

Work on the new Union Grove-Yorkville fire station is about 80 percent complete, according to a project update given to the fire commission in September. Substantial completion is targeted for late November, with the finished station expected in late December.
