Gov. Tony Evers announced that the Wisconsin State Building Commission has approved about $254 million in funding for state-owned facility projects across Wisconsin.
The package includes a public-private partnership at UW-Madison to build two new residence halls on state land. The project would provide about 1,690 student beds and a 400-seat dining facility, with completion aimed for fall 2029.
Funding also covers utility and service tunnel updates at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute to support the Wisconsin Resource Center, and remodeling at the Madison Readiness Center. The commission also released funding to complete design plans for a new Readiness Center in Wisconsin Rapids for the Department of Military Affairs.
Other higher education work includes elevator tower additions at UW-La Crosse for accessibility, and laboratory and lecture hall renovations at the Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee and Parkside campuses under the 2025-27 Instructional Space Projects Program. Roof replacements and heating plant updates are planned at UW-Green Bay, UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater, along with demolition of the UW-Madison Extension Building.
The commission also authorized 29 maintenance and repair projects in 15 counties, covering building exteriors and utilities for agencies including the Departments of Natural Resources, Transportation, Veterans Affairs and Corrections.
