The Salvation Army of La Crosse held its annual Coats for Kids distribution on Thursday, Oct. 22, handing out winter clothing to local families ahead of the cold season.
The distribution took place at the Salvation Army warehouse at 434 Nelson Place in La Crosse, scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m., according to advance reporting on the event.
Community members donated more than 300 coats for the campaign, along with hats and gloves. The items were collected locally and then distributed by the Salvation Army to families in the La Crosse area.
Twenty-seven families received winter gear on the first day of distribution, organizers reported.
The yearly program provides winter jackets and other cold-weather essentials at no cost to families, helping ease household costs as temperatures drop in the Coulee Region.
