Racine police are investigating a homicide on the city's north side after a shooting early Thursday morning.

Officers went to the 500 block of Greenfield Road at about 3 a.m. Thursday. Police said a caller reported being assaulted inside a home and said they had shot someone.

Police found a 52-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died at the scene.

The 44-year-old man police say fired the gun is cooperating with the investigation, according to the department. Police said the shooting reportedly grew out of a dispute between neighbors.

Neighbors told TMJ4 the heavy police response was unusual for the area, and some said they were shaken by what happened overnight.

A Racine police spokesperson said this was the seventh homicide in the city this year. No further details were released in the report.
