The City of Racine is collecting fall leaves from Oct. 5 through Nov. 30. The seasonal pickup is tied to each household's regular solid waste collection area, so residents follow the dates assigned to their area rather than a single citywide day.

On a scheduled day, residents may set loose leaves and yard waste in the street gutter. Yard waste can include grass clippings and garden debris, and branches are taken if they are bundled, tied with string, no more than 3 inches across and no longer than 4 feet.

Some material will not be picked up. Leaves and yard waste left in bags or containers are not accepted, yard waste placed in alleys is not accepted, and piles that are blocked by parked cars may be left behind.

Pickup rotates through five areas, with each area getting four dates. Area A is Oct. 5 and 19 and Nov. 2 and 16; Area B is Oct. 7 and 21 and Nov. 4 and 18; Area C is Oct. 9 and 23 and Nov. 6 and 20; Area D is Oct. 13 and 27 and Nov. 10 and 24; and Area E is Oct. 15 and 29 and Nov. 12 and 30.

Once the collection window closes on Nov. 30, yard waste has to be taken to the city's Pearl Street Facility instead. Residents with questions about their area or what is accepted can call the city at 262-636-9171.
