Attorneys for Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs filed a civil lawsuit in Brown County Circuit Court on Wednesday seeking a permanent injunction that would restrict access to surveillance video and other records from a May 23 incident at his home.

The filing came a day after the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department said it had approved releasing certain records with redactions, while noting that a party involved had appealed that decision. The lawsuit puts the release of records that had not previously been available on hold.

Jacobs pleaded no contest on Sept. 10 to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property charges stemming from the incident. He was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine plus court costs on the battery count, and the criminal damage count was deferred for 12 months and can be dismissed if the agreement terms are met.

A Brown County judge lifted a temporary seal on the records on Sept. 24 and left the release decision to the police department. The criminal report describes garage surveillance video showing part of the altercation.

The lawsuit argues that releasing the video could identify the woman involved despite redactions and could reveal interior details of the home. Those are arguments in the filing, not court findings.
