Oshkosh and Neenah will receive federal funding to help replace lead water service lines, according to a funding list released for the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program.

Oshkosh is set to receive more than $6.8 million, and Neenah will receive more than $1.9 million.

Statewide and nationally, more than $102 million was allocated to 12 municipalities under the program. Officials estimated the funding will support removal of about 15,028 private lead water service lines across those communities.

Several other Northeast Wisconsin communities applied but were not selected in this round, including Appleton, Two Rivers, Kimberly, Waupaca and Fond du Lac.

Lead service line replacement is aimed at reducing lead exposure from drinking water in older homes and buildings where lead pipes remain in use.
