Under a Milwaukee Public Schools class-size plan, about 55 teachers would lose their current positions at the end of October, though they could move to other jobs in the district.
About 81 positions would be cut across 47 schools, 26 of them already vacant. Meanwhile, 47 classrooms currently lack a permanent teacher.
Superintendent Brenda Cassellius leads the district.
On Oct. 12, roughly 70 people protested at French Immersion School, where about 150 people signed a petition, ahead of a board committee meeting on Oct. 13.
