Milwaukee businesses and tourism officials are preparing for the Brewers' World Series run, with each home game estimated to bring $10 million to $15 million in economic impact.
Visit Milwaukee's Josh Albrecht said a typical Brewers home playoff game generates about $5 million, with the World Series figure expected to rise substantially. He said the series is also a chance for gathering and celebration across the city.
Downtown, the Third Ward Beer Garden is planning a block-party-style setup with video monitors and food trucks, with hours from noon to 11 p.m. for fans to gather. Its proprietor, Dave Hock, called the moment a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and said the excitement should translate into sales.
Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 CEO Matt Dorner said bars, restaurants and hotels are preparing for tens of thousands of fans and visitors, and that the exposure could support small businesses and encourage future visits and investment.
The city is adding Brewers-themed touches including posters for businesses and residents, flags, blue-and-gold building wraps downtown and a banner in front of City Hall. Visit Milwaukee and the Brewers have also created an online playoff guide with hotel information, watch parties, tailgating options and an itinerary.
