A Milwaukee family is mourning 44-year-old Kazzie Ference, a mother of eight who was shot and killed in her home near 77th and Carmen early Saturday.
Prosecutors say her boyfriend, 41-year-old Tavarris Jones, shot her and has been charged with first-degree homicide. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Court records cited by prosecutors say children were in the home at the time of the shooting.
Relatives remembered Ference as a positive person who had earned a master's degree and her home, and who cared for her children and her mother.
Her family is now calling for stronger, more proactive support to prevent domestic violence homicides in Milwaukee.
