Menasha High School went into the final weekend of voting leading a nationwide contest that could bring $1 million to rebuild its tornado-damaged football stadium.
The school is one of 40 finalists in the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights sweepstakes. Civic Media reported Menasha trailed McClain High School in Greenfield, Ohio, by more than 17,000 votes earlier in the week, but by the final weekend it had pulled ahead by more than 35,000 votes.
Calder Stadium, the Bluejays' home field, was wrecked by the EF-3 tornado that struck the area on July 27. The damage was severe enough that the team has played its home games this season at Lawrence University's Banta Bowl in Appleton.
Menasha has already won $25,000 for its football program by reaching the finalist round. Winning its division would bring $250,000 and a spot among four national finalists competing for the $1 million grand prize.
Voting in the divisional round ends Sunday, Oct. 25, on the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights website.
