A Kenosha alley near 39th Street and 14th Avenue that was full of deep potholes has been graded smooth, days after the condition of the lane was first reported publicly.
Homeowner Duane O'Keefe said he had been asking the city since July to grade the gravel alley behind his home. Driving through it twice a day, he said, jolted his neck, and he worried the rough surface was also a hazard for people walking through.
At first, O'Keefe said, he was told the work might have to wait until next year, with equipment shortages and budget limits cited as the reasons.
After his concerns were reported, O'Keefe contacted the station again with an update: city crews had come out and levelled the alley. On a return visit, the deep holes were gone and the gravel surface had been smoothed.
O'Keefe said the finished alley looked completely different and the way it should have looked all along, and he said he was surprised and relieved at how quickly the repair happened after months of calls.
