A local contractor sued Susan Grace Castagnoli-Krokosz, 73, of Pleasant Prairie, and her husband Keith M. Krokosz in Kenosha County Circuit Court on Sept. 28, saying the couple did not pay a $27,980 invoice for roofing and related work at their Pleasant Prairie home.

The contractor is seeking the unpaid balance along with interest and attorney fees. Castagnoli-Krokosz was dismissed from the lawsuit shortly after it was filed, according to Kenosha County Eye.

Keith Krokosz disputes that anything is owed. In counterclaims filed Oct. 19, he is seeking more than $50,000, alleging defective workmanship and saying a fuel spill at the property required environmental cleanup.

The counterclaim filings contain several drafting oddities noted by Kenosha County Eye, including leftover wording in an Oct. 16 appearance document, repeated unexplained citation markers, and conflicting dates — July 22 in one section and July 24 in another — for the roofing permit.

Castagnoli-Krokosz is a former Illinois attorney who was disbarred by the Illinois Supreme Court in May 2011. Disciplinary proceedings in that case found she had collected unauthorized additional fees from bankruptcy clients, including $45,528.53 across multiple cases.

The Kenosha County case remains pending, with the contractor and Keith Krokosz presenting sharply different accounts of the work and what, if anything, is owed.
