Kenosha County will hold five medication collection sites on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for National Drug Take Back Day.
The sites are Walmart at 3500 Brumback Blvd. in Somers, the Kenosha County Human Services Building at 3500 52nd St. in Kenosha, the Kenosha County Center at 19600 75th St. in Bristol, the Twin Lakes Police Department at 920 Lance Drive, and Tallent Hall at UW-Parkside, 900 Wood Road in Kenosha. Drop-off is drive-thru and free, with no appointment needed.
Three sites — Walmart, the Human Services Building and the County Center — will also offer free Narcan training, gun locks and information on behavioral health services. County officials said the training takes five minutes or less and covers how to spot an overdose and give the medication.
Those three sites will also have fentanyl and xylazine test strips available. Supporters present the strips as a way to lower the risk of an unknowing exposure, while critics question whether government should distribute them and argue public money should focus on treatment, recovery and enforcement. A negative strip result does not guarantee a substance is safe.
Accepted items include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, ointments, patches, inhalers, creams, non-aerosol sprays, vials and pet medications, plus vape devices with batteries removed. Illegal drugs, needles and sharps, aerosol cans, acids, biohazardous material, household hazardous waste and personal care products cannot be accepted.
Walmart is taking part in the county event for the first time this fall. County officials said Wisconsin has led the nation in medications collected on Drug Take Back Day for five straight years, with 56,818 pounds turned in statewide during the spring 2026 event, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
