The City of Kenosha said on Oct. 14 that applications are open for a new grant program for the 52nd Street corridor.

The program is funded through the Kenosha Redevelopment Authority. It covers eligible businesses and property owners on 52nd Street between 38th Avenue and 13th Place.

Awards can reach $10,000, but applicants must put in the same amount themselves. Eligible work is on the outside of a building, including windows, doors, awnings, lighting, signs and masonry.

Mayor David Bogdala said the city wants the help to lead to visible upgrades that draw customers and support growth along the corridor.

The city also pointed Uptown owners to two existing options: a facade program offering up to $10,000 with a dollar-for-dollar match, and a retention and recruitment program offering up to $5,000 with a 25 percent match for items such as inventory, equipment, marketing and technology.

Applications for all three programs are handled by the Community Development Department at 625 52nd Street. The department can be reached at 262-653-4030, and city program information is at kenosha.org.
