State and local leaders gathered in De Pere on Oct. 21 to mark completion of the new Interstate 41 and Southbridge Road interchange in Brown County.

The interchange is part of Brown County's South Bridge Connector project and connects with adjacent roadway work in the area. Officials said it is expected to open to traffic next week.

Gov. Tony Evers and Wisconsin Transportation Secretary Kristina Boardman joined Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach and De Pere Mayor James Boyd at the event. Evers described the project as a long-planned investment that will help move goods, support local businesses and strengthen supply chains.

The interchange includes multi-lane roundabouts and a shared-use path along the north side of Southbridge Road. Partners in the broader connector effort include Brown County, the city of De Pere and the towns of Ledgeview and Lawrence.

The work is one piece of the larger I-41 project, which began in April 2024 and is rebuilding and widening 23 miles of the interstate from four lanes to six between Wisconsin 96 in Appleton and County F in De Pere. That overall project is scheduled for completion in 2030.
