Kenosha County plans a full weekend closure of Highway W through downtown Wilmot, starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16.
The closed stretch runs between Highway C west, at 114th Street, and Highway C east, at 113th Street. It is set to reopen at 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 19.
Crews will use the closure to put in a 76-inch culvert, finish storm sewer crossings and make other storm sewer connections, working four 10-hour shifts. The county warned of extra construction traffic and noise, including overnight.
The work is part of a larger Highway W project that is resurfacing the road from Wilmot south to the Illinois line. That work began in April 2026 and is expected to run into late fall.
Local access will remain available during the weekend closure. Through traffic is directed to a detour using Highways C, CK, KD, F and B, and drivers were asked to allow extra time.
A separate closure of Highway W south of 114th Street will stay in place after downtown reopens so work can continue farther south. Questions can go to project leader Kevin Klipstein at 262-397-7236.
