A new neighborhood planned in Fox Crossing will include 56 homes built through a partnership between a private developer and Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity.

The project, called Horizon Crossing, is planned just south of Highway 10 between Clayton Avenue and Irish Road. It will include 39 market-rate homes and 17 Habitat homes sold to first-time buyers with zero-interest mortgages.

Habitat said the development is its largest single-site project in the Fox Cities. Construction on the market-rate homes is set to begin this fall, with work on the Habitat homes scheduled to begin in 2027. Families have already been selected for roughly half of the Habitat homes.

Tom McHugh Construction is leading construction of the market-rate homes. Community First Credit Union and philanthropist Mary Beth Nienhaus are among the donors helping to fund the Habitat portion of the project.

Habitat leaders said mixing the two types of homes in one neighborhood is intended to make the overall project financially workable while expanding access to homeownership. Two streets in the development will be named Nienhaus Way and Meraki Way.
