A 70-year-old Fond du Lac County man died Wednesday evening after an ATV crash in the town of Forest, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office said.

A passing motorist called 911 at about 5:50 p.m. on Oct. 21 to report an ATV on its side near the shoulder of Walnut Road near Century Lane, with a man lying nearby who was unresponsive.

Deputies responded along with Mount Calvary fire and EMS personnel, Mount Calvary first responders, a City of Fond du Lac ambulance intercept team and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Lifesaving measures were underway when deputies arrived, and a ThedaStar medical helicopter landed on Walnut Road.

Investigators said a preliminary look indicates the ATV was traveling west on Walnut Road while towing a brush mower when the driver lost control and the machine overturned in the roadway. The driver, who was the only person on the ATV, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Walnut Road was closed between County Road W and 7 Hills Road for about two hours. The DNR is continuing to investigate the crash, and no further information was released.
