Saint Mary's University is reporting a growing number of influenza cases in the Winona area and is urging people to take precautions.
The university reminded students and residents to watch for common flu symptoms, including fever, headache, fatigue, cough, sore throat and body aches.
Health guidance shared by the school includes getting a flu shot, washing hands often, covering coughs and sneezes, staying home when sick, and considering a mask when out in the community.
Most flu cases last three to five days and improve on their own. People who are not at high risk and are not very sick usually do not need medical care, but should rest, drink fluids and limit contact with others.
Warning signs that need prompt medical attention include trouble breathing, pain or pressure in the chest or belly, sudden dizziness, confusion, severe or repeated vomiting, severe dehydration, or symptoms that improve and then return with fever and a worse cough.
