Two temporary disaster recovery centers are opening in the Fox Valley to help residents and businesses affected by the July 27 tornado.
The first center opened Oct. 19 at the former UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities campus, 1655 University Drive in Menasha. It is scheduled to remain open for at least 30 days. A second center will operate at the Grand Chute Fire Department, 2250 Grand Chute Boulevard, from Oct. 26 through Oct. 31.
Both centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. They will be closed on Sundays.
Staff from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be available to answer questions and help people with applications. The openings follow an Oct. 7 emergency declaration that made federal assistance available in the area.
The deadline to apply for FEMA individual assistance is Dec. 7. Applications can also be made at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362. Winnebago and Outagamie county emergency management officials encouraged anyone still dealing with storm costs to apply, saying the funds may help with eligible disaster-related expenses and rebuilding.
