Leaders from Family Health Center of Marshfield joined government officials and community partners on Oct. 6 for a groundbreaking in Wisconsin Rapids for a new health center.
The building will cover 24,250 square feet. It will be the first Family Health Center site to put dental care, primary care, behavioral health and pharmacy services together in one location, so patients can get coordinated care in a single stop.
Many people in the Wisconsin Rapids area now travel to Marshfield or Neillsville for care at a Family Health Center site. The organization says it worked with community leaders for more than ten years to identify local health needs, find funding and plan a center in Wisconsin Rapids.
A $3 million federal grant is helping pay for the project, with support described as bipartisan from U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin and U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden. The center will be built at 231 West Riverview Expressway on land donated by the Legacy Foundation of Central Wisconsin, near the Boys & Girls Club, YMCA and VA services.
Construction was set to begin the week the groundbreaking was announced, with completion expected in fall 2027. Once open, the center is expected to create about 55 jobs and expand access to medical, dental, behavioral health and pharmacy care across the Wisconsin Rapids area.
