An explosion was reported Sunday night at a manufacturing site in Marshfield, and arriving crews found fire and smoke showing in several parts of the building.
Marshfield Fire and Rescue said the call came in at about 10:10 p.m. on Oct. 18 for Forte Opening Solutions, located at 1401 E. Fourth St. The first group of eight department members found the problem spread through areas of the plant.
Inside the facility, piping and conveyor equipment move sawdust and other wood byproducts. Officials said flames reached into those systems, which made parts of the fire harder for crews to access.
A box alarm brought in added help, including the Hewitt Area Volunteer Fire Department and Central RIT. Crews used an aerial device as part of the work, and 16 firefighters in total were involved over about four hours before the fire was out.
The department described the damage to the affected section as moderate. No one was reported injured, and investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
