A new financing program is aimed at filling empty storefronts in downtown Racine with shops, restaurants and other street-level businesses.

The Downtown Racine Business Attraction Loan Program was launched this month by the Racine County Economic Development Corporation, the City of Racine and the Downtown Racine Corporation.

Qualified businesses can seek low-interest financing of up to $250,000 to open a street-level location inside the program boundary. Up to half of a loan may be forgiven.

Organizers said priority will go to retail and restaurant proposals, and to existing owners, whose businesses fit with what downtown already offers and can bring steady customer traffic.

The program opened in October 2026 and will run until its funding is fully awarded or September 2027, whichever comes first. Because funding is limited, organizers are encouraging interested businesses to apply early and contact RCEDC for the full guidelines.
