Chippewa County will host a free medication disposal site for National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24, in Chippewa Falls.
The drop-off runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter, 2786 Commercial Boulevard. The event is organized by the Chippewa County Department of Public Health and the Chippewa County Healthy Communities coalition, with the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office and the Lake Hallie Police Department.
Accepted items include prescription and over-the-counter medications, capsules and pills, creams and ointments, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, medication patches and vials, and pet medications.
Sharps and syringes, aerosol cans, items containing blood or bodily fluids, household hazardous waste, vape pens, mercury thermometers and personal care products will not be accepted, organizers said.
National Drug Take Back Day is intended to provide a safe way to dispose of unused or expired medications and to reduce the risk of accidental poisoning and misuse. The county said year-round disposal options for medications and sharps are also available.
